Eric
Philips is a professional polar adventurer, working in the field of lightweight
and unsupported expeditioning for over 10 years. He has completed ground-breaking
ski traverses on the worlds four largest icecaps (Antarctica, Greenland,
the South Patagonian Icecap and Ellesmere Island) and has skied to both
the North and South Poles. He has also worked as a musician, an outdoor
educator and a Field Training Officer for the Australian Antarctic Division.
In 2004 Eric was awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia for achievements
in polar exploration.
Eric’s
expeditions have given him the unique opportunity to capture the Earth’s
polar environments on film, both still and video. He has been the principal
cameraman on two of his films and the photographer on all of his expeditions.
He also worked as host on the US adventure film series, Global Extremes:Mt.
Everest. Eric’s North Pole self-portrait was selected from a field of 20,000
images to be included in Australian Geographic’s, Best Of Australia collectors
edition magazine. His photographs have appeared in outdoor magazines around
the world and feature in his book, Icetrek.
