Availability
of products in Azerbaijan and in Baku in Particular, has improved dramatically
in the last few years. Prices are very reasonable. Before stepping
out onto the streets, arm yourself with plenty of Manat if you plan to
do any spending - some shops will accept US$, but credit cards have yet
to catch on in Azerbaijan. A lot of the products on sale are of Turkish
origin.
Look carefully before buying! Pay particular attention to expiry dates and fake brands. Besides the formal shops, there are a few open air markets, and in addition to these the streets are dotted with stands selling everything you can imagine (and a few things you couldn't as well!).
Baku’s
main shopping area begins at Fountain Square. Clothes and shoes (with the
exception of furs) are expensive but the selection of goods improves constantly.
There’s an excellent selection of very good baby shops including a Mothercare.
Most of the souvenir shops are dotted around the Old City & sell a
range of antiques, carpets & local crafts.
